Lessons ยท Unit 11: Rhythm III

6/8 time

In 6/8 there are six eighths to a bar, but you do not feel six beats: they group in threes and you count two, each worth a dotted quarter. It is a compound meter, the one behind barcarolles and jigs.

Six eighths: "1 2 3 4 5 6"
The two real beats: dotted quarters

In the drill the metronome clicks only those two beats, on 1 and on 4, even though the numbers on screen keep counting all six eighths.
