Lessons · Unit 13: Expression

Tempo marks

Above the first bar there is usually a word that sets the speed. It is not a metronome number: it is a character, and each word covers a range.

  • Largo — very slow, broad
  • Andante — at a walking pace, calm
  • Moderato — moderate
  • Allegro — fast and cheerful
  • Presto — very fast
Andante: a walking pace
Allegro: fast and lively

From slowest to fastest: Largo, Andante, Moderato, Allegro, Presto. That is the order to keep in your head.

Drill

The session goes on until every skill below is mastered: at least 10 answers, at most 40. Your progress carries over between sessions.
